Manufacturer's Description
Telescope Reach: Quick release wand expands for instant cleaning so there are no awkward parts to assemble for high-reach jobs.

Root Cyclone Technology: A Dyson cyclone spins air at high speed. Dirt and dust are thrown out of the airflow and collected in the bin, not on filters or in bags. So unlike other machines, Dyson doesn't clog and lose suction, so it picks up more dirt.

Large debris channel: The additional front channel on the cleaner head means that larger dirt and debris are not 'snowploughed' across a smooth floor, so you can pick up larger pieces such as rice and nuts first time.

No running costs: The pre-motor filter removes particles down to 0.1 micron and is washable. The post-motor filter traps harmful carbon emissions from the motor. This filter never needs replacing.

Approved for allergy sufferers: DC14 Telescope Reach models have been approved by the British Allergy Foundation.

Instant stair cleaning: Extendable hose reaches to the top of the stairs.

Hygienic and quick to empty: No need to touch the dust - just push the trigger.

Car cleaning: For easier cleaning in confined areas the tools can be fitted directly to the end of the wand or the hose.

Motorised brushbar: All Dyson uprights have a motorised brushbar. This improves pick up on carpets by sweeping the dust and fibres trapped in the carpet pile into the constant Dyson airflow.

Anti-jam brush bar: To prevent belt breakage or gear damage, the brushbar disengages and makes a ratchet noise to warn when it is obstructed.

Auto carpet-height adjustment: Maintains constant contact with the floor to maximise dust pick-up.

Clear Bin: You can see how well the Dyson works, there are no bags to buy, you can always tell when it's full and it is easy to empty.

Dual handle: Lowered handle for easy carrying.

Edge cleaning whiskers: DC14's suction is channelled right to the edges of the cleaner head, unlike many uprights. Its specially-designed whiskers, angled to reach down between the skirting board and the floor, flick the dust from the edge into the airflow.

Lovely upgrade4
Having had a Dyson for about 10 years and loved it. I decided to up grade my model, as we have had a complete house make over. Dyson have not let me down, the performance is superb. It is a little on the noisey side but then I can live with that.

Forget suction power... many vacuums claim great suction, which I honestly could care less about. How well a vacuum lifts the dirt out of my carpet is the only reason I would buy a vacuum, or better yet; keeps (or makes) my carpet new is the most important thing. The Dyson Vacuum has incredible lifting power. I got the Dyson and then vacuumed my house for the last time with my old vacuum and then vacuumed again with the Dyson. I kid you not I dumped the Dyson out 4 times before I was done with the whole house. I vacuumed my house twice every day for the first week (first pass would net two dumps and the second would be ¼ full); I think foot traffic loosened the ground in dirt. By the end of the week my carpet (which I was about to replace, the reason I got it was to use on my new carpet) had lost years. A new carpet isn't cheap, so the investment in the Dyson literally paid for itself in a week.
I've had the Dyson now for five weeks and my carpet looks like it did 10 years ago. Now, I only vacuum once a week now and barely get a canister full of dirt.
Oddly enough when I first started using this vacuum on my floors I had a lot of stains (two kids and one dog and one cat) I was just about to have my carpet professionally cleaned (a last ditch effort to prevent a costly replacement). Now most of the stains have gone and those that remained I was able to take care of with carpet cleaners, Again another savings. The only filter on it is still clean and only sometimes I feel I can smell dust from it (the emissions claim). And that's only when I sweep bare floors (my garage) where people have dumped cigarette ashes on the ground. I think it may have a weakness in the attachment tool (its clumsy to reinstall), but that is still working fine. Bottom line is it's really my kids' job to vacuum and they love it. So if 11 and 13 year-olds can use it and my house looks (and smells) clean, Dyson must have done something right. I suggest you buy one now.

Great design but noisy4
A committed Dyson user we saw no reason to change brands when searching for a new vacuum. The DC14 looks fab and is extremely simple to use. It has a good range of tools, really long lead and good hose extension for stairs. Also, good for cleaning the car which is a great improvement on earlier models. I choose the all floors model as we have carpets and wooden floors and it's working brilliantly.

My only criticism is the noise level. It makes a really high pitched whistle on top of the normal vacuuming noise. Dyson have advised me this is normal due to the high level of suction generated. But if you can put up with the noise I would highly recommend the Dyson.
